Robert Wingo, competing in the first track meet of his career, captured titles in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles as Bartlett’s boys track team kicked off their 2013 season by hosting the West Tennessee Track Jamboree Saturday.
No team score was kept in the day-long competition although Southwind, Craigmont and Hughs High Schools had strong showings in the women’s event and Houston showed some domination in the men’s.
First year Bartlett coach Kris Harmon described his squad as short on experience but long on talent and Wingo, a former football standout, showed he had multi-sport skills.
The all purpose athlete took the 110 High Hurdles in 15.93 and followed that up with a 41.23 run to nip Marion High School’s Fernando Smith in the 300-meter lows.
Bartlett’s boys also showed well in the relays as Jose Velo-Santana, Braun Stephens, Christian Torres and Johnathon Frazier combined for an 8:42.46 to top Marion by more than five seconds.
The Panther’s 4X200 and 4X400 quartets finished third and the 4X100-meter relay was fifth.
Nigel Yancey finished second in the shot with a 43’2” put. Devin Jackson made it close with a fourth place put of 39’6”.
Cornelius Cunningham was fifth in the discus with a 120’3” effort. Dallas Johnson and Alijah Bell finished fifth and sixth in the pole vault with 9’6” and 7” marks.
In girls results two Bartlett relays finished on the medal stand.
The 4X100 meter relay and 4X200 finished third and second respectively. Bartlett’s foursome of Makayla Lewis, Lakesha Blackburn, Myia Hoskins and Alexia Kneeland manned the spring relay squad. Kiara Scott and Jacquelyn Alston joined in for the 4X200.
Alexia Kneeland added a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a 1:04.8 effort while Hailey Huffman was seventh in the 1600-meter run in 6:15.16.
Ashley Schaller also finished seventh in the discus with a 64’5” effort.
