The game seemed over. Bolton had a 20-17 lead against Covington on the road. There were fewer than 25 seconds left on the game clock. However, Covington immediately passed the ball into Bolton territory after the kickoff. On the next play, the Wildcats committed an offsides penalty, giving Covington range to make a 40-yard field goal and tie the game 20-20 at the end of regulation. In overtime, Covington scored on a two-yard run from T.J. Smith, who finished the contest just shy of the 100-yard mark. The Wildcats answered with a redzone touchdown run courtesy of Darian Nave, who finished with 151 yards on the ground. Rather than tie the game with an extra-point kick, Bolton elected to go for a two-point conversion in an effort to bring an end to the lengthy contest. The attempt was unsuccessful and Bolton suffered its eighth loss of the season. While Covington gained 329 rushing yards in the game, Bolton’s defense did hold the 7-2 Chargers to a mere 70 passing yards. Bolton’s offense clicked for much of the game. The Wildcats picked up nearly 300 total yards in the contest. Bolton (1-8) will finish its season Friday at 5-4 Millington Central. The Trojans are coming off of a tough one-point loss to Arlington.
