Veterans remembered and celebrated

[dropcap]Bartlett-area[/dropcap] veterans and their friends and families gathered with city leaders and other locals Sunday for the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Park. Walter L. Peggs Sr., U.S. Air Force Pastor of Fullview Baptist Church led those gathered in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Events included the Bartlett Police Department’s posting of the colors, the national anthem sung by David Skelton, an armed forces medley performed by the Appling Middle School Band, a welcome by David Horne, a reading of Jeff Meece’s original poem titled “Veterans Day,” remarks by Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald, the laying of a wreath at the memorial and the playing of “Taps.”

The guest speaker was David K. Dunning, retired colonel from the U.S. Army medical Service Corps and current Medical Center Director and CEO for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Memphis.
