The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is urging the public to leave wildlife alone which appear to be abandoned. Recent flooding in various areas of the state has displaced some wildlife.
Each year, especially in the spring and the early summer, Tennesseans encounter wildlife appearing to be orphaned, sick or injured. The TWRA urges the public to leave wildlife alone. Young wildlife may have been placed in the location by the parent or parents to keep it safe while the parents are nearby feeding or collecting food.
In the case of animals apparently stressed by an injury, a permitted rehabilitator trained and experienced in caring for the animal or bird may be the best option. However, more often than not, wildlife should be respected and left alone.
