Tigers toppled in tourney

Hendersonville’s offense proved too much for Arlington Friday night in the TSSAA Class 6A tournament game as the Tigers gave up more than 400 yards on the ground in a 49-31 loss. While Arlington gave up only 35 passing yards in the contest, Hendersonville’s vaunted run attack was virtually unstoppable from start to finish. The 8-3 Commandos jumped on Arlington early with a nine-yard touchdown run from Cameron Turner. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the opening quarter. The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the second with a 41-yard field goal from Cameron Durley. However, the Commandos answered back with another rushing touchdown from Jack Powe. Hendersonville had four different players score rushing touchdowns in the game. Arlington scored its first touchdown in the second on 24-yard pass from quarterback Hunter Sheffield to Jackson Boring. Sheffield finished the game with 211 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Each of his touchdown passes were thrown to different receivers. Before the end of the half, the Commandos scored again on a 13-yard run from work horse Corey Jones, who would finish the game with 134 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Tigers would score once more before the half after Sheffield found Joseph Stevenson for a six-yard touchdown in the redzone. Stevenson finished with 53 rushing yards. Clinging to a 21-17 lead at the half, Hendersonville took charge of the contest in the third quarter, scoring on back-to-back drives. Arlington finally answered with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Sheffield to Tyler Flack, making the score 35-24. But Hendersonville started the fourth quarter much like the third. Jones scored consecutive touchdowns for the Commandos before Sheffield scored the final points of the game on a 30-yard pass to Rayveon Hardin. Arlington finished the game with 66 rushing yards, 16 first downs and 211 passing yards. Hendersonville finished with 35 passing yards, 22 first downs and 424 rushing yards. The Tigers finished their season 8-3.
