On Sept. 3, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) said the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) is helping Tennesseans build the American Dream “brick by brick, block by block and street by street” by giving families a chance at owning their own homes.
“This is being done in part with help from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, which enabled more than 2,000 households to purchase new homes in 2013, had a $411 million direct impact on Tennessee’s economy and created more than 6,300 jobs,” Alexander said.
He also cited specific examples, like Sergeant Jorge Diaz, who is receiving help to avoid foreclosure.
Alexander said, “The Tennessee Housing Development Agency has helped Tennesseans like Sergeant Jorge Diaz. After two tours of duty in Afghanistan, Sergeant Diaz should be able to achieve the American Dream of owning his own home, and THDA is helping him do that.”
The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) was created in 1973 as a self-supporting state agency – which does not receive state tax money for operating expenses – to promote the production of affordable housing for very low, low and moderate-income individuals and families in Tennessee.
