‘Super Sale’ on Jan. 25 to fund Guatemala mission trip

Bartlett Baptist Church has schedule its annual “Super Sale” for 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 25. The massive rummage sale will be indoors at the church’s Worship Center at 3465 Kirby Whitten Parkway in Bartlett.

Items for sale vary each year, but organizers say there is never a shortage of furniture, exercise equipment, children’s clothes and toys, other household items and even some antiques. Several items each year bring in hundreds of dollars by themselves. An estimated 150 families donate items for the sale and pack out the Worship Center, which is approximately 7,000 square feet with seating for more than 900 people.

The fund-raising goal this year is $7,000 or more. The church’s student pastor, Todd Oakley, said this is the fourth year of Super Sale, and the church has raised more than $5,000 over each of the past three years.

The event will fund student mission trips, particularly the church’s seventh consecutive annual student mission trip to Guatemala planned for this year. Ten students in grades 10-12 who are active members of the church will go over spring break (March 10-17) to serve for seven days in the village of Pombincito. This year’s students will be from Bolton High School, Arlington High School, White Station High School, First Assembly of Christ School, home school, and Christian Brothers.

Oakley said, “There are several different goals and ministry opportunities while we are in Guatemala. The students will teach English classes. Our students will serve and encourage impoverished children through Bible clubs and sharing the gospel of Jesus with them. We provide clean drinking water to families in the community.”
