
Savanna Owens of Bartlett, a senior at Briarcrest Christian School, has signed a Letter of Intent with the University of Memphis for track and field.
She has been on the Lady Saints Varsity Track team since her freshman year. Owens has helped lead the Lady Saints varsity track and field team to three consecutive regional championships. She is a two-time 400 meter Division II State Champion and was on the state runner-up 4×400 meter relay team from 2015 through 2017.
Owens broke three BCS school records in the 400 meter (breaking her own record twice), 4×400 meter relay and the 4×200 meter relay. Each year, she has made the Best of Preps in the Memphis area.
In 2017, she made the top three for the Commercial Appeal Track Athlete of the Year.
Outside of school track, Owens competed in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics this summer and finished eighth in the nation, giving her an All-American title.
She has also been on the varsity basketball team since her freshman year and has helped lead the team to win the Division II Regional Championship and become a state runner-up in 2014. Owens has been selected to the first team All-Region for three years. In 2016, she was team captain, and she also assisted in leading the team to win the Division II Regional Championship and first team All-State. She was selected the Division II Region Athlete of the Year.
Owens is dedicated to working hard and having determination to reach her goals on the track and in the classroom. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She also loves to give back and help others by working with kids in various sports camps. She said one of her favorite bible verses is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
She is the daughter of Spencer and Sonja Owens and has a younger sister, Shelbi, who loves to cheer her sister on. Owens is the granddaughter of Frankie Owens, Mager Williams, Linda Davis and Gaylord Savannah.
