The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) handled the following incidents in Arlington during the latter half of January.

Jan. 16
U.S. 70 (misdemeanor shoplifting)
The manager at Fred’s (11888 U.S. 70) reported a laundry supply shoplifter on Jan. 16. She said surveillance video showed an unknown black male push a cart of about $120 of detergents past the point of sale. He left in an unknown vehicle and an unknown direction.
Jan. 17
Richmark Way (forcible fondling)
An officer responded Jan. 17 to a forcible fondling incident on Richmark Way. The incident happened between 7:30 p.m. and about 9:30 p.m. that night. Additional information is not currently publicly available on this case.
Polk Road (misdemeanor vandalism)
A resident on the 5800 block of Polk Road reported Jan. 17 that someone rolled, egged and otherwise vandalized her yard that night. Damages from the vandalism totaled about $75.
She aid she heard a noise in her front yard, looked out her window and saw a small blue pickup with exterior LED lights driving away. Then she saw toilet paper all over her yard and trees, as well as broken eggs and ketchup smeared on her driveway, sidewalk, front porch, mailbox and yard decor.
She named a male suspect who owns a truck matching that description and said he was angry that her daughter would not date him.
Jan. 20
Airline Road (counterfeiting/forgery)
A customer at the Shell Gas Station (5055 Airline Road) tried to pay with a counterfeit $20 bill on Jan. 20.A clerk said the bill didn’t feel right, so he used a currency marker on it, and the mark turned brown instead of yellow. The responding officer said the $20 bill also appeared to be smaller than usual.
The customer and her father remained at the station until officers arrived and cooperated by answering questions about the money.
The father said he got the bill the previous morning from an unknown white male employee (balding, medium build) at the customer service counter of Kroger (11635 U.S. 70, Arlington). The responding officer took the counterfeit bill into evidence.
Southern Winds Drive (residential burglary)
A woman reported Jan. 20 that someone had burglarized her husband’s residence on the 5400 block of Southern Winds Drive overnight.
She and he are living at their residence on the 2600 block of Willow Rest Drive while the Southern Winds Drive home is up for sale. She checked the house around 11:15 a.m. Jan. 19 while her husband was out of town. Then a neighbor called her the next morning to advise that the house’s back door had been forced open and a door to the garage was ajar.
Responding officers found that the rear door appeared to be secure but the door frame was broken.
Cushions had been pulled off the family room’s couch. The master bedroom was ransacked with the mattress pushed off the bedframe and both nightstand drawers open with their contents on the floor. A TV and an Apple tablet were among the items stolen. Total value of the stolen items was about $1,900.
Her husband said he could provide receipts for most, if not all, of the stolen items when he returned.
Officers did not find any fingerprints of value. Footprints in the grass led from the fence on the north side of the yard and there was a shattered flowerpot on the south side of their fence.
Airline Road (intimidation)
A female assistant principal at Arlington High School (5475 Airline Road) reported on Jan. 20 that an upset father had menaced her about his son’s suspension.
She said the student drew pictures of male genitals on his assigned computer keyboard during his IT class on Jan. 15 and lied about it, earning a two-day suspension. She met with the student’s father at the attendance office on Jan. 19.
She said the father asked her angrily several times, “Are you the [expletive] who suspended my son?” and also came close in front of her with his arms up in an aggressive manner.
She told him he could not talk to her that way and he should leave, and she called for the school officer. The father’s temper cooled at that point, and he apologized.
Two female witnesses said they were also concerned about the man’s behavior.
