The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 17-year-old in connection with armed robberies on Jan. 13-14 at the Dairy Queen restaurant on the 2400 block of Hacks Cross.
Two victims said they were ordering food in the drive-thru lane, and a black man approached them, wearing dark clothes and a ski mask and carrying a handgun. They each said he opened the driver’s side door and demanded money.
On Jan. 16, officers from the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Crime Response Unit (PCRU) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) units along with K-9 and Patrol conducted surveillance of areas surrounding the restaurant. Just after 8 p.m., they saw a man crawling through the field directly behind the restaurant. Officers caught him after he stood up and ran behind a dumpster.
The suspect had a .22 caliber pistol and was wearing a ski mask. He was taken to Juvenile Court and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of criminal attempt robbery and possession of a firearm. Because of the suspect’s age, his name was not released.
