Schools can promote environmental stewardship, win cash and vie for the honor of becoming an Eastman Good Sports Always Recycle Environmental Steward School. Eastman and the University of Tennessee (UT) are kicking off the 24th annual Good Sports Always Recycle (GSAR) school challenge. Schools are invited to showcase their environmental programs for a chance to win up to $1,500 and a unique UT football game experience.
Tennessee schools with programs designed to actively manage environmental impact or educate students and communities about environmental stewardship are eligible and encouraged to enter the statewide competition. These programs can come in a variety of forms: Reducing waste, providing environmental education, reducing overall impact through energy and water conservation, recycling programs, the use of green space or other environmentally-focused programs.
Eight schools will be awarded $1,000 for the GSAR School challenge; one exemplary school will be awarded $1,500 for the GSAR Sustainability Steward Award; and one school will be awarded $1,500 for the Best New Program.
Schools can fill out a short, 12-question nomination form at Eastman.com/GSAR by Oct. 3 to enter for a chance to win.
Along with the financial award, the 10 winning schools will be recognized at a University of Tennessee football game, and the winners will get a behind-the-scenes look at the Vol Network studios, participate in a tailgate celebration and be recognized in an on-field presentation during the game.
Another component of the program is a free online educational packet designed to help educate students on the importance of being environmentally friendly, as well as ideas to help the student body implement a recycling program. Teachers have access to grade-specific lesson plans and activities, as well as recycling links and statistics that focus on environmental stewardship.
