Many love to dress up as someone they are not for Halloween. This is the ultimate season for ghoulish garb, and popular renditions include characters from Game of Thrones and a plethora of Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and other traditional superheroes. Be on the lookout for original outfits, too.
It is a fun time for many, and hopefully activities will be kept clean and safe.
The month is sure to be filled with a lot of scary movies on the TV. Hopefully, those terrifying scenes will not be acted out anywhere other than the “haunted trails” and “haunted houses” and will all be in fun.
I have seen many pranks through my years. It seems we get the usual reports of where someone tears up some important monument or throws eggs at cars passing by. Some residents in high-traffic areas choose to pull their cars behind their houses to avoid becoming targets of destructive objects.
Local law enforcement personnel annually encourage those who will be out trick-or-treating to be safe and wear some reflective clothing and also for motorists to be on the lookout for little goblins going back and forth across the roads to call on homes for treats.
Local churches hold trunk or treats where members line up their cars in a circle with decorated trunks and plenty of chocolate. Little goblins can travel with family and visit a lot of stops in a short time while staying safe.
When I was a child we lived out in the boonies where there were only two houses close enough to walk to. Those who answered the door knew who we were even though they acted surprised.
When we returned home, we would empty our paper sacks filled with delicious homemade goodies. It was fun to see what we had collected. Of course we were happy to share (most of it). There was usually a special goodie that we kept for ourselves.
Halloween is on Thursday this year.
Here’s to a happy and safe Halloween. Have a good time, stay safe and remember that most of us will have to be back at work or school the very next day.
