Sarah Peddy

Sarah Frances Jones Peddy of Bemis, Tenn., age 96, died Dec. 29, 2013, at the King’s Daughters and Sons Home in Bartlett.

She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in the Glendale Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late Hugh Ned and Vassie Eason Jones. She attended school in Chester County. She was married to Herschel Hooper Peddy, Dec. 14, 1939. They moved to Pinson in 1951. Mr. Peddy died in 1968. Mrs. Peddy was a nurse at Jackson General Hospital, retiring in 1977, and she later worked for Regional Hospital for six years. She was a member of the Holly Springs United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four children, Bonice Peddy Henson and husband, Shelby, of Bartlett; Hensel H. Peddy and wife, Teresa, of Luray; Sandra Peddy Shepherd and husband, Jimmy, of Pontotoc, Miss.; and Glendel W. Peddy of Springfield, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Sonia Jenkins, Carrie Grokulsky, Alisa Harbor, Teresa Fitts, Diane Russell, Mark Peddy, Brant Peddy, Melody Nunamaker, Glen Peddy Jr., Mona Wonders, Brandon Stevenson and Kristy Stevenson; 23 great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Pruitt of Memphis and Doris Brannon of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; and one brother, Allen K. Jones of Memphis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Albert J. Jones and Henry Ned Jones; and two sisters, Lucille Ray and Louise Pepple.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Friday Jan. 3, 2014, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Johnson Chapel in Henderson, Tenn., with Bill Evans officiating. Burial followed at New Friendship Cemetery in Chester County, Tenn.
