More than 1,000 volunteers helped to decorate graves at Memphis National Cemetery on May 24 in honor of America’s fallen veterans on Memorial Day weekend. This year was the 31st remembrance on the grounds.
The slideshow of Theron Malone’s photos above includes:
- Angel Hernandez and Heather Cliburn from Bartlett troop #27 placing flags on veterans’ graves. They were among more than 1,000 Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Heritage Girls, Boys Clubs and other Mid-South organizations who participated.
- The Walter K. Singleton Marine Corps League Detachment 476 of Memphis firing volleys as part of the program.
- A view of more than 42,000 flags placed on the graves of U.S. military members who died while serving their country.
