Since reopening in the fall of 2011, Memphis International Raceway has roared back into the motorsport’s scene with extreme sports and high-octane racing excitement. The 200+ events hosted at MIR in 2012 attracted 300,000+ visitors changing the face of sports and entertainment in Shelby County and the Mid-South; plus providing a much-needed boost to the region’s economy.
“The first full racing season at Memphis International Raceway was an incredible success,” said Pam Kendrick Vice President and General Manager. “But if you liked what you saw in 2012, you will love what we have planned for 2013! The 2013 season offers an incredible variety of events with something for everyone from the seasoned driver to the racing spectator,” said Kendrick.
The racing season cranks up in early February with Xtreme Xperience Drive or Ride. This is a perfect opportunity for thrill seekers that takes place on MIR’s challenging 1.8 mile road course. The racing action continues full throttle through the first of December. Some of the highlights include these national events:
Super Chevy Show – the premier national event for all Chevrolet enthusiasts with high-powered Chevy racing excitement, the spectacular Chevy Show Cars, one of the finest Performance & Restoration Midways for GM products, Swap Meet and Car Corral. Super Chevy Show also includes a Pro Show featuring Jet Funny Cars GOJO and Top Secret, Wheelstander Superwinch and the fan favorite Pro Mod Show Down – who’s the baddest ProMod in town.
HotRod Power Tour – the ultimate hot-rodder vacation. The attention of 40 million automotive enthusiasts will focus on the Hot Rod Power Tour during the 7 days in June when the rubber meets the road. Thousands of car enthusiasts, drawn together by their love of the automobile, will cruise across American with the staff of Hot Rod Magazine and icons of the automotive industry. Sponsored by the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Millington Area Chamber of Commerce.
Fun Ford Weekend – the family friendly event features Ford-powered or Ford-bodied bracket racers, restoration experts showcasing their finished masterpiece in the Car Show, Swap Meet and Car Corral, Midway offering performance aftermarket and restoration products from show sponsors and vendors, as well as Pro Shows featuring Jet Cars!
ADRL – American Drag Racing League’s top drag racers driving the fastest cars on the planet.
Nitro Jam and IHRA World Finals – Nitro Jam™ Drag Racing Series is a professional drag racing entertainment circuit featuring 300+ MPH Top Fuel Dragsters, nitro-powered Pro Fuel Dragsters, wild Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars as well as amazing exhibition acts including jet vehicles, wheelstanders and other various racing acts. The Summit SuperSeries World Championship consists of the best 16 racers in Top, Mod and Junior Dragster classes from across the US, Canada and Aruba and New Zealand in a race that will determine the Summit SuperSeries World Champions.
