It was the first of two such walks at local schools, designed to kick off the new school year with prayers for the school children, their parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, support staff, bus drivers and cafeteria workers.
The 2018-19 school year started for Bartlett, Arlington and Lakeland public schools on Monday, Aug. 13.
The next prayer walk in Bartlett was at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Bartlett High School, and organizers invited the public to participate. Both events were sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 14041 at the Catholic Church of the Nativity in Bartlett.
Before the Aug. 5 event began, participants of all ages signed a poster that contained a poem, “I Said a Prayer for You Today” and had a group prayer. As they walked slowly around the school, Joseph Pembroke, a charter council member, pulled a wagon with a portable speaker during the walk so prayer readers could use a wireless microphone. Midway through the walk, Knights of Columbus members passed out ice-cold bottles of water to all to help participants cool off.
