The New Neighbors charitable organization that serves the Mid-South decided to honor local police departments with a gift of homemade caramels this summer.
New Neighbors member Lana Tice made approximately 1,500 homemade caramels July 20 to deliver to the Memphis Police Department in appreciation of all they do to protect our community. Assisting in cutting and wrapping the treats were Amy Cole, New Neighbors service chair, and New Neighbors members Sidna Bookout, Brenda Lupo, Vicki McLean, Cynthia Montgomery, Sherry Swords and Ruth Weaver. MPD received the gift at the July 21 Blue Crush meeting.
The following week Tice made more caramels to deliver to the Collierville, Germantown and Horn Lake, Miss., police departments. New Neighbors’ President Carolyn Steiner and Service Chair Amy Cole delivered the goodies to the three police departments. Future deliveries will include the Bartlett Police Department.
Founded in 1972, New Neighbors is a nonprofit organization of “neighbors meeting neighbors through social activities and community service.” Members are from the greater Memphis, Tenn., metropolitan area, including Germantown, Collierville, Memphis and other locations. Social activities may include sports, reading, games, movies and more, and they serve their communities in volunteering and fundraising.
