Panther comebacks fall short against Craigmont

The Bartlett boys roared back from more than 30 points down but couldn’t quite catch up with district rival Craigmont Wednesday evening. The Panthers fell 79-70.

In a game postponed due to Tuesday’s weather, Bartlett didn’t show up early as the Chiefs built a 45-26 cushion at half and extended it to 64-40 going into the final eight minutes before the Panthers roared back.

Following the lead of freshman Nathan Hoover and senior Eric Waddell, the Panthers pulled within seven but couldn’t draw closer.

Waddell led all scorers with 21 on the evening while Hoover added 16. Demarious Cason bullied his way for 12 around the basket while Eric McGill added seven. Deangelo Hall hit for six with Desmond Howard adding four. Ryan Miller and AJ Jones had a pair apiece.

Jalen Fitzgerald hit for 20 to lead the Chiefs while TQ Brewster had 12.

 

Bartlett 45  Craigmont 50

 

Shondria Scruggs hit 21 points and Bartlett rallied late in the fourth but the Lady Panthers couldn’t overcome Craigmont in 14AAA district action. Bartlett fell 50-45.

The Lady Chiefs clung to a 28-23 halftime lead and opened up a 44-32 cushion going into the fourth before Bartlett stormed back.

Turning up full court defensive pressure, the Lady Panthers tripled up Craigmont but ran out of time.

Shuntavia Rodgers and Shelby Organ had eight and seven respectively to go with Scruggs’ 21. Stella Gill tossed in four, Madison Carroll 3 and Grace White got a pair on the evening.

Shenequa Foster and Candice Davis led Craigmont with a dozen each. Alessia Conley added 11.
