Gelato Café in Bartlett to close by end of August
The Gelato Café in Bartlett announced via Facebook late Monday night that it will be closing at its current location on Aug. 31. It is in the Bartlett Towne Center at 5985 Stage Road.
Owner Maher Garada wrote, “We are sad to announce that Gelato Café will be closing at the end of August. Please come by and visit us before we go!! We appreciate all who have supported us in the last 14 years. We will miss our friends and customers. It is time to start a new business in a new place.”
In response to dismayed questions on Facebook about where the café might relocate, Garada wrote, “We are still looking at different locations but we will keep everyone updated.”
The café currently has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp, based on 40 reviews.
Arlington medical practice adds 2 specialists
To better serve the healthcare needs of the Arlington community, Saint Francis Medical Partners Primary Care has added a family medicine physician and a cardiologist.
Since Aug. 1, Dr. Muhammad Janjua has been providing cardiology outreach services to the community of Arlington. Janjua specializes in internal medicine, cardiology, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular risk factor assessment and disease prevention.

Community to unite Aug. 26 to honor 9/11 victims, heroes
Area residents will come together at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, to begin setting in place 3,000 American flags at Forest Hill Funeral Home. The funeral home is at 2440 Whitten Road in Memphis.
The 3,000 American flags represent the first responders, civilians, and military heroes of September 11, 2001.
This hard-to-miss display of patriotism is being set in place for the upcoming Never Forget Tribute to take place on Sept. 11. The Never Forget Tribute is designed to honor the memory of the thousands lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The tribute will be at 6 p.m. at at Forest Hill Funeral Home-East.
The Never Forget Tribute is a free, family-friendly community event open to the entire public. In addition to the flag display representing the first responders, civilians, and military heroes of 9/11, an art exhibition by local youth will be in place for community to appreciate. The artworks for the exhibition are being designed and created locally by area middle and high school youth.
Opening ceremonies of the Never Forget Tribute include words of inspiration from pillars in the community. Following the opening ceremonies, the Never Forget Youth Art Exhibition & Contest will get underway. Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite artwork.
As a gesture to show support and respect and to thank local first responders for all they do daily, a banner will be available for community members to inscribe with notes of thanks and gratitude. Each guest also will receive a special Sept. 11 memorial lapel pin. The Never Forget Tribute also includes an appetizer reception for all guests.
Forest Hill Manager Michael McGeehan said, “On Sept. 11 we will unite with our community and our nation to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. BPACC reminds actors of Aug. 28 auditions
The Bartlett Performing Arts & Conference Center is launching the BPACC Little Theatre program this fall. Auditions for the entertaining and touching musical comedy “Smoke on the Mountain” will be 6-8 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Center.
Performance dates will be 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3-4 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
“Smoke on the Mountain” will feature talented residents of Bartlett and the greater Memphis area. The Center is searching for actors-singers, female and male, ages 18 and up. Opportunities are also available for musicians experienced with the guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, piano, harmonica and mandolin.
For individuals who prefer to be behind the scenes, the Center is seeking an experienced stage manager, as well as technicians.

Lakeland seeks volunteer for appeals board
The City of Lakeland Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for a volunteer position until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1. The position is with the Board of Appeals/Storm Water Board of Appeals.
The BOA/SWBOA hears appeals and may grant variances on planning and storm water related matters. Meetings take place on an as-needed basis on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Lakeland City Hall.
