Lunch workshop series to focus on business accounting, bookkeeping, planning

accountingMEMPHIS — Many small business owners do an excellent job of selling their products or services, but lack strong financial skills or don’t have sufficient back-office support for accounting, bookkeeping and business planning. That’s one reason why three local businesswomen are offering free quarterly “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” workshops, which will start Wednesday, Nov. 5.

“These workshops are for entrepreneurs who are outgrowing their current in-house accounting processes or who want to improve efficiencies in their back office,” said Nita Black, a business planner and owner of MAP Momentum.

She is teaming with Debbie Hylander, a licensed Certified Public Accountant who owns Hylander CPA Firm PLLC, and Adrienne Foster, a QuickBooks ProAdvisor who owns Foster Financial Management, to offer the two-hour workshops.

The Lunch & Learns will be at The Colonnade, 1661 International Place Drive, Suite 400 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided. An RSVP by Monday, Nov. 3, is required; space is limited to 20 participants.

Attendees will learn how to develop a good business plan and the importance of its nine core components; how to choose the QuickBooks version that’s best for their businesses; which financial tools can simplify invoicing, billing and reporting; and how tax planning and restructuring can save them money.

Black has more than 25 years of experience in business planning and financial analysis. She was previously a vice president, commercial lender, and loan collections officer at First Tennessee before starting her business consultancy in 2000. She has a bachelor’s of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Memphis.

Hylander founded her firm in 2010 after serving as senior manager, tax services at Dixon Hughes PLLC and as a controller for Neely Green Fargarson Brooke & Summers and Howard Enterprises, Inc. Hylander received a BBA from Christian Brothers University.

Foster began her career in non-profit and corporate organizations after earning a bachelor of business administration degree from Austin Peay State University and a master of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

To attend the workshop, RSVP by emailing NitaBlack@MAPMomentum.com or call Foster Financial at (901) 382-5006 or Hylander CPA Firm at (901) 457-7451.
