Local businesses to support autism center’s drive

W-TRANSFORMATIONS-donation-April is Autism Awareness Month, which is a special time of year at Transformations Autism Treatment Center in Bartlett.

This year, the nonprofit organization will launch the “Donate a Dollar for Autism” campaign with the support of local restaurants and an area hair salon.

During April, all of the Moe’s Southwest Grills and Humdingers in the Memphis area and Bob’s Barksdale Restaurant in Midtown will be participating by asking their customers, “Would you like to donate a dollar for autism?” when they pay for their orders.

Customers will be given the opportunity to fill out a donation sheet that will be posted in the restaurant.

Pigtails and Crew Cuts hair salon in Germantown is joining in this campaign by the salon donating $1 for each hair cut they provide during April. They will also be asking their customers if they would like donate $1 for autism.

The goal is to raise local awareness about autism and raise funds for Transformations so the facility can continue to provide services and support to children and families affected by autism in our community, according to John Holtzman, director of finance and development for Transformations.

The organization receives phone calls on a daily basis from families in need of services. The center is serving 65 clients with more being added each week.

With 1 in 68 children being affected and 1 in 42 boys being diagnosed, the need is great in our community, Holtzman said.

Businesses that wish to join as hosts for this campaign are still eligible to participate, and individuals are also invited to provide support as donors. For more information, call the center at (901) 379-8827 or stop by its office at 6761 Stage Road, Bartlett.
