Lifeblood donors to get box of Girl Scout cookies

Lifeblood-logo-2018Donating blood and cookies go hand in hand, so Lifeblood has teamed up with the Girl Scouts to bring donors some of the best-loved cookies around. Now through Wednesday, Feb. 28, donors at a Lifeblood donor center will receive a box of Girl Scout cookies and a pair of “Kick Up Your Feet & Donate” socks.

“We are excited to partner with the Girl Scouts and bring delicious cookies to our generous blood donors,” said Danny Garrick, Lifeblood’s southeast division president. “We hope that by offering donors the opportunity to receive a box of cookies, donors are reminded to take time to donate blood on a regular basis, at least three times a year.”

All items are while supplies last.

This partnership was established in the hopes of making a big impact on the lives of Memphis-area patients by securing an adequate blood supply in all blood types. Three gallons of donated blood is used every minute in the U.S., and that blood can only come from generous blood donors.

Donations are needed from all blood types. However, Lifeblood is experiencing an increased need for type O-positive blood and all negative blood types.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. Donors also earn points in Lifeblood’s “Hero in Me” online rewards store. Points can be redeemed for movie tickets, pizza, shopping cards and more. A photo ID is required to donate.

Donor center locations, hours of operation and appointment scheduling can be found at lifeblood.org or by calling (888) 543-3256. Walk-ins are welcome.

To save time and fast track a blood donation, a potential donor can visit lifeblood.org on the same day of his donation and click on “Fast Track Health History.” This allows the donor to complete the interview portion privately online. Those who use this option should print the “Fast Track Donation Ticket” and bring it to the donor center or have it available on a smartphone.
