Lifeblood and the Bartlett, Arlington and Lakeland Donor Council recognized its 2012 group and individual volunteers at a holiday reception on December 13.
Bartlett High School teacher Sharon Drewry was named Volunteer of the Year for her exceptional work organizing student blood drives at the school. Brother International received the Group Achievement Award for employers and Bartlett Woods Church of Christ was recognized as the year’s best faith-based group. The Newcomer Group of the Year was awarded to Advance Services Inc.
In addition, Lifeblood awarded 15 groups with a 100 Club plaque for their ongoing dedication to the local blood supply by donating 100 or more units per year for five or more years.
Plaques were received by City of Bartlett, Faith Baptist Church, MLGW-Bartlett, Accredo Health, Bolton High School, Bartlett Baptist Church, Sycamore View Church of Christ, Brother International, Pfizer Inc., Bartlett Hills Baptist Church, St. Ann Catholic Church, Christ Church, Bartlett High School, Church of the Nativity and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
The City of Bartlett’s 450 full-time employees were recognized for having donated nearly 3400 units of blood since 2004 when the donor council was founded.
The awards were presented by Susan Berry-Buckley, Lifeblood CEO and Bartlett Mayor Keith McDonald.
“Supporting the local blood supply is a cause that is very close to the hearts of our volunteers,” said Lifeblood CEO Susan Berry-Buckley. “We have an exceptional group of blood drive coordinators and donors in the Bartlett, Arlington and Lakeland area that work tirelessly to make sure patients have the blood they need when they need it.”
