Henderson, TN: Larry “Bill” Browder passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Henderson Health and Rehab Center.
He was born and reared in the Finger/ Henderson area, the son of the late William Gavin and Elsie Lee Massengill Browder. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1962, the same year he married Marcelle Ridley. They moved to Memphis in 1964 where he began his lifelong passion of providing for his family. He first became a Memphis police officer and in 1969 he started his career as a Greyhound bus driver. This lead to his crown jewel — Browder Tours, which gave him the opportunity to work with his two boys, his wife and one of his daughters. Along the way he also operated Browder Tires, Browder Chevron and Browder Towing, serving the Bartlett community with a passion for helping others. After he sold Browder Tours he continued to drive and operate charter buses until he retired. Marcelle passed away in 1999. Then, in 2000 he moved back to Chester County and married Margaret Brock in November 2005 and they made their home in the Sweet Lips Community.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Browder of Henderson, a son Robert Lee “Bob” Browder of Bartlett, TN, two daughters; Michi Grinder and husband Shane of Eads,TN, Kim Thompson and husband Darryl of Henderson and two sisters; Dorothy Torbett of Knoxville, TN and Doris Ethridge of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by a son; William Larry “Bill” Browder, Jr. and five brothers; Dewey, Raymond, Gene, James “Jim” and Joe Browder.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org/) or the Shriner Hospital for Children (www.shrinershospital.org/).
Funeral services were at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with burial in the Sweet Lips Cemetery. The family received friends at Casey Chapel from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29.
