The City of Lakeland is conducting a special census that could increase the city’s revenue by an estimated $80,000 annually.
The census will help the city by adding all the new arrivals in Lakeland since the 2010 census.
State Shared Tax revenues sent to the City of Lakeland each year are determined by the official population count of Lakeland residents.
The city has mailed residents a special census form to complete and return. Lakeland residents also can access the special census form online.
The deadline for all responses is Dec. 1, 2014.
For all addresses that don’t return the form, the city will be required to field check each location. Returning the form helps to reduce the cost of this special census and eliminates the need for residents to have field contact with a representative from the city.
City officials note that they are counting on residents to fill out and return the form so Lakeland receives its fair share of tax revenues from the State.
