“The amphitheater was created to bring the community together,” said city manager, Jim Atkinson. “We’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a while now.”
He was referring to all the landscaping and renovations that were put fourth before hosting this event, the first of four outdoor concerts this summer. Improvements included the new gravel parking lot just south of the original parking entrance to International Harvester (IH) Park. The additional parking lot provides much-needed spaces for guests. The park also features tiered retaining walls so concert-goers can easily see the stage and entertainment.
The deck was extended across the back of the I.H. Clubhouse, which faces the 65-acre park and provides a panoramic view of the park, the stage and the five-acre fishing lake. Inside the clubhouse, the Rec Room got a face-lift with double French doors overlooking the patio deck and park.
“It was a wonderful evening,” Atkinson said. “The response to the first summer concert was impressive. We hope that everyone who was part of the inaugural event enjoyed it as much as we did. We look forward to the next concert.”
The next concert featuring The Super 5 is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Central BBQ and Kona Ice will be the featured food trucks. For more information, visit lakelandtn.org or the city’s Facebook page at facebook.com/lakelandtn.
