On Monday, Lakeland began collecting historical memorabilia for an exhibit that opens in downtown Memphis this spring.
The display will be visible around May 15 through August in three large glass cases in the lobby of the Vasco A. Smith Jr. County Administration building at 160 N. Main St., Memphis. The building is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Shelby County began hosting rotating such historical displays in 2015.
Kim Odom, Lakeland special events coordinator and Senior Center manager, is inviting people to donate or loan historic pictures, replicas, memorabilia, maps, articles and more to represent Lakeland’s past, present and future in the display. She is the main point of contact and can be reached at the Senior Center at (901) 746-8195.
The next historical exhibit will be of the Tennessee Historical Society of Davies Manor.
