The Tennessee Association of Health, Physical Education (PE), Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) recently named Cindy Fowler, a PE teacher at Bartlett Elementary School, a 2019 grant recipient. Ms. Fowler will receive a $500 grant to purchase lacrosse equipment at her school.
In addition, Marcy Ross, a school counselor at Bartlett High School and the girls’ lacrosse sponsor, was awarded 10 Soft-Stick Equipment Grants from US Lacrosse. This equipment will furnish all Bartlett City Schools PE departments with 30 soft Lacrosse sticks and Lacrosse curriculum to be taught to students. Ross also received the First Stick Grant from US Lacrosse to help start the Bartlett Middle School Girls Lacrosse Team. The value of these grants is approximately $9,000.
The equipment will be on loan to middle school players interested in playing girls lacrosse as a way to grow the program and excitement for the sport.
Bartlett High School will be starting its third year of competitive lacrosse for both boys and girls. The boys play at the varsity level, while the girls have a varsity, junior-varsity, and middle school team. Any girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in playing lacrosse or learning more about the sport should emall Ross at mross@bartlettschools.org.
