City of Bartlett Fire Chief Terry Wiggins and Assistant Chief Tommy Gately spoke to Kiwanis members on Feb. 27 at their bi-weekly luncheon meeting. They shared information about how the department interacts with local youths, especially through the schools.
Bartlett has five fire stations, each equipped with an ambulance that is available 24 hours a day. In addition to protecting the lives and property of our city, the dedicated firemen provide free home inspections, provide free smoke detectors and offer CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training.
The Kiwanis Club meets at noon twice a month (second and fourth Wednesdays) at Coletta’s Italian Restaurant, 2850 Appling Rd. (at Stage Road). Guests are welcome.

The speaker for the March 27 meeting will be E.W. “Buddy” Chapman, executive director of Crime Stoppers of Memphis and Shelby County.
Chapman, a former Memphis director of police, has headed Crime Stoppers since 2006. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and also has a strong background in private sector security and safety.
Those attending can expect to hear how Crime Stoppers originated, sources of funding, how rewards are paid in confidence and how effective the program has proven to be in helping law enforcement identify, arrest and convict criminals.
