High school actors ham it up at district level

Thirteen area schools competed in the annual District I acting contest for the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League (THSSDL).

The event was hosted in March at Arlington High School. Mid-South schools participating included:

  • Bolton High
  • Cordova High
  • Collerville High
  • Germantown High
  • Houston High
  • Overton High
  • Madison Academic
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • St. Mary’s
  • St. Benedict at Auburndale
  • St. George’s Independent School

The students who advanced to state competed in Brentwood, Tenn., on April 11-12. THSSDL district competition includes categories for extemporaneous speaking, solo acting, one-act plays, interpreters, and theater and public debate.

Bolton High School students took second place in district competitions for the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League (THSSDL). From left are Lindsey Max, Donovan Hughes, Aaron Ball (seated), Chastedy Johnson, Amber James, Linsey Jordan and Char Taylor, all of whom were part of the cast for “This Is a Test,” a one-act play. Other cast members not shown were Josh Vega, Tyler Gaffney, Chris Waelde, Reign Erby, Olivia Halvorson and Haley Paige. Josh Vega and Aaron Ball were chosen for the All-Star cast for District one. Two Bolton sudents qualifed for the state competition: Jasmine Robertson placed second in solo acting, and Noah Donald placed first in solo acting.
