Credit union to celebrate 60th anniversary all year
HealthNet Federal Credit Union plans to mark its 60 years of service to the healthcare community throughout 2015.
The celebration kicked off at the Feb. 25 meeting at Baptist Memorial Hospital. For information on special anniversary offers and programs for the rest of the year, visit their website at healthnetfcu.org.
HealthNet was founded in 1955 to serve the financial needs of the employees of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. With assets approaching $50 million and more than 6,700 members, HealthNet has continued to grow and provide financial services.
The credit union has evolved and changed over the years to provide financial services to the employees of Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation and to many medical groups and hospitals throughout the mid-south area.
The main office is on Chickering Lane in Cordova with additional locations in the physicians building of Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and in the physicians building of St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, as well as a branch in Southaven, Miss., at 84 Airways Place.
HHS awards $11.9K to to state to support home visiting program
Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell has announced $11,931,494 in grant awards to Tennessee to support the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (Home Visiting Program).
These funds will let the state continue expanding home visiting services to women during pregnancy and to parents with young children.
The Home Visiting Program currently serves approximately one-third of the counties in the country with high rates of the following indicators: low birth weight, teen birth rate, living in poverty and infant mortality rates.
In 2014, the program served 115,000 parents and children across the nation. Nearly 80 percent of families participating in the program had household incomes at or below the 100 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett honors doctor of the month

Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett has named orthopedist Sam Schroerlucke, M.D., as the January Physician of the Month, the hospital reported on Feb. 16.
He joined the medical staff at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett in 2010.
His clinical expertise, caring demeanor towards his patients, and positive attitude with hospital staff are some of the attributes that earned him the recognition.
He attended medical school at the Medical School of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. He also completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical School of Georgia.
He subsequently completed a spine surgery fellowship at the San Diego Center for Spinal Disorders in San Diego, Calif.
