Early balloting ends today for Nov. 8 vote

Early voting ends at 7 p.m. today, Nov. 3, in Shelby County for those who want to avoid the last-minute rush on Nov. 8. See shelbyvote.com for locations. As of Saturday, 161,239 Shelby Countians had already cast their votes in the general election.

In Bartlett, three aldermen are running for re-election: Bobby Simmons, Jack T. Young and Paula Sedgewick. Three school board members are also running for re-election: Jeff Norris, Shirley K. Jackson and David Cook.

Check your clocks for time change

Remember the mantra, “Spring forward, fall back,” when adjusting your clocks this weekend to welcome back Central Standard Time. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. this Sunday.

Don’t miss seeing Rebs battle the Yanks

On Nov. 5-6, the Rebs and Yanks will be skirmishing through Bartlett in two reenactments of the 1864 battles in Bartlett.

The two different battles are at 1 p.m. both days at W. J. Freeman Park, 2629 Bartlett Blvd. Admission is $5 daily and it includes a Grand Civil War Ball with the 52nd Regimental String Band on Saturday night plus a night cannon fire, a period 1860s church service on Sunday morning, and sutlers, guest speakers, period clothiers and crafts, and food vendors all weekend.

On Nov 4, the Battle of Bartlett Association will host a Civil War School Day 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Freeman Park for students in grades 5, 8 and 11.
