Judge ends lawsuit over city school districts
The three-year legal battle over creating city school districts in Shelby County is finally over. U.S. District Judge Samuel “Hardy” Mays approved a joint request Monday to dismiss the case.
He found the agreements reached between Shelby County Schools and the six new municipal school districts to be reasonable.
The county district received payment to cover employee retirement benefits and agreed to sign quit-claim deeds for school buildings within the municipal districts.
Community band tuning up
The Bartlett Community Concert Band (BCCB) is preparing “A Night with John Philip Sousa” for its annual concert at 7 p.m. March 22.
The event will be at the Bartlett Performing Arts and Conference Center (BPACC).
The BCCB is open to all ages and all skill levels and draws musicians from all over the Mid-South, including teachers, businessmen, students, medical professionals and more.
Under the direction of Dr. Rhendle Millen, the band meets once a week to practice.
8th district art contest opens
High school students in the 8th Congressional District of Tennessee are eligible to compete in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Submissions are now being accepted.
