Lakeland due for bond issue referendum

ballot-boxLakeland City Hall received notification from the Shelby County Election Commission on Tuesday that petitioners did obtain enough signatures to require a referendum on the $50 million school bond issuance recently approved.

No date has been set yet for the city-wide vote.

Bartlett band to entertain Thursday night

The Bartlett High School Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Bartlett High School Auditorium. Admission will be $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free admission for pre-school children.

Citizens asked to give their Lakeland Prep wish list

Lakeland Prep logoA community input meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Lakeland Elementary School. Residents are invited to attend and provide their input on the academic, athletic and extracurricular offerings and the facility design of the school district’s proposed 6-12 facility, Lakeland Prep.

Shelby County invites citizens for university

Shelby County SealThe Shelby County Mayor’s Office is now accepting applications for the next session of the Shelby County Citizens’ University. It begins Jan. 22 and continues through April 16.

“Citizens get a behind-the-scenes look at Shelby County Government and how their tax dollars are spent,” said Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell Jr.

The 12-week course will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evenings at various Shelby County facilities.

  • Chief Administrative Officer/Administration and Finance/Information Technology
  • Community Services
  • Corrections
  • Health Department
  • Planning and Development
  • Public Works
  • Public Affairs
  • County Attorney/Public Defender/Divorce Referee
  • Office of Preparedness
  • Elected Officials (Trustee, Sheriff, County Clerk, Assessor, County Commission)
  • Shelby County Election Commission

For details, go online to shelbycountytn.gov and look for the link to the Citizens’ University. Don’t delay, as Friday, Jan. 16,  is the application deadline.
