Donors lined up outside the National Civil Rights Museum on Monday to roll up their sleeves for a good cause and also earn some welcome incentives to enjoy on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Lifeblood sent out an appeal for donors on Jan. 16 because supplies were at an “extremely critical shortage of all blood types.” On Monday, a special blood drive at the museum netted free passes for successful donors.
The need is still urgent, however, and donors are asked to give at any of the Lifeblood locations.
Donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 115 pounds and be in general good health. To make an appointment, go online to clublifeblood.org/door.
Donors through Feb. 28 will receive a 2015 Lifeblood shirt, or they can choose to surrender the shirt in exchange for a contribution to be made in their name to the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, Sickle Cell Foundation, American Cancer Society or Lifeblood.
For a listing of public blood drives or to locate the nearest Lifeblood donor center, visit www.lifeblood.org or call (888) LIFEBLOOD.
