The Girls Scouts Heart of the South regional council, based in Memphis, is calling for girls to enter the nationwide One Heart One Voice National Infographic Contest. It is open to all girls in grades 4-12.
The event is in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and of the voice that inspired change. The goal is to have girls examine today’s global civil and human rights issues and show how they can make a difference in this world. For the winner, it is a chance to travel to Memphis and be part of the MLK50 celebration and visit the National Civil Rights Museum.
Girls can say create an entry simply by creating an innovative storyline. Of course, the more creative and relatable to everyone, the better. An infographic is a visual representation, data or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly. Entrants can access many free infographic templates online, such as piktochart.com or venngage.com.
“This is their chance to let their voices be heard by telling Girl Scouts Heart of the South how these issues impact them, how they can have compassion for others, how each of us can make a change, and how we can speak with One Heart and One Voice,” said Melanie Schild, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of the South.
The deadline to enter the contest is Friday, March 9. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Winners will be announced via Girl Scouts Heart of the South social media, via email, and on the OneHeartgs.org website.
The first-place finalist will win transportation, hotel accommodations to Memphis for two nights and two tickets to the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. The winner’s work will be shared online and featured in the “Promise” magazine, as well as featured in the “One Heart One Voice” ceremony this spring.
The second-place finalist will receive a basket of MLK50 Commemorative memorabilia. The third-place finalist will receive a picture book of Martin Luther King Jr. All participants including winners, will receive a certificate of participation. Winners will receive an additional winner’s certificate.
