MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former Arlington High School financial secretary received a long sentence in a diversion program and repaid the thousands she stole from school funds at a sentencing hearing on Monday.
Toni Cox, 49, will participate in the Community Corrections Program for 12 years.
The program was created to relieve prison overcrowding by diverting felony offenders from the Tennessee prison system and giving them necessary supervision and services.
Cox admitted to taking $142,307 in a two-year period of embezzlement July 2008 and June 2010 by altering collection records from school organizations, activities and fees. A Tennessee State Comptroller audit uncovered the discrepancies.
The charge against her was theft over $60,000.
