Friday marked the sixth week for most high school football teams and the fifth game for most colleges.
It seems to me like it all just began. Didn’t we just publish the introduction of the football teams? And isn’t it still in the ’90s outside?
What happened to the cool, crisp football nights where many fans could be seen covered under blankets?
Now, here we are looking at the high school playoff pictures and college bowl projections. Well, at least those teams projected to make the college football playoffs are starting to line up.
Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Auburn and Florida are some familiar names that could be in the playoffs. Notice one obvious scenario? Most polls put five SEC teams in their top five.
The picture will clear when a lot of these teams go head-to-head later down the stretch. If the five weren’t all in the same conference maybe at least three would be in the playoffs.
A lot can happen and usually does as rivalries renew. After all, they’re “just kids” out there having the times of their lives.
Several local high school teams may make a deep run into the TSSAA state playoffs in search of that coveted state championship. The rest of the season will tell us who’s in and where they will be seeded.
I really like football season even though my alma mater is in a downward spiral … again.
Support your favorite team and wear its colors.
See you at the game.
