The 24th annual Rochelle Stevens Invitational Track Meet was held Saturday at St. George’s Independent High School. More than 700 athletes and spectators from seven states were on hand for field events, sprints, long-distance runs and relays.
The event, hosted by Olympic gold and silver medalist and Shelby County native Rochelle Stevens, is sanctioned by the Amateur Athletic Union.
Competitors ranged from children ages 2-5 in the 50-meter dash to senior men ages 68-70 outrunning the 40-year-old men in the 4×100-meter relay. The 50-meter dash also included a lively trio of mascots: The Chick-fil-A cow, Home Depot’s “Homer,” and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office crime dog McGruff.
