Delta Fair & Music Festival arrives Aug. 29

The Delta Fair & Music Festival will come to the Agricenter in East Memphis on Aug. 29, bringing communities together to celebrate and promote the rich art, music and history of the Delta. Special attractions include:

  • delta-fest-image“Meet and Greet with Peyton List,” who stars as “Emma” on Disney’s Hit Comedy “Jessie.” The public Meet and Greet will be by the Ford Main Stage, 2-6 p.m. Aug. 31 and 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 1.
  • Star of the Fair vocal competition: Preliminary competitions will be Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. On Sept. 2, top finalists will compete in the Junior and Senior divisions to determine the Star of the Fair winner, based on judging and crowd response. Winners get a $1,000 cash prize for the Senior division and $350 for the Junior division.
  • Demolition Derby: Aug. 30, starting at 3 p.m.; derby pros destroy each other’s cars in an attempt to be the last man moving.
  • Survivor Casting Call: If you love adventure and you think you can survive a remote island for $1 million, then be sure to audition for one of America’s most watched reality shows. Auditions will be 1-6 p.m. Sept. 7.  Go to DeltaFest.com for eligibility requirements.
  • Agriculture: 4-H and FFA Children’s Barnyard, Delta Livestock Show, Tennessee High School Rodeo, crafts, culinary, gardening, 4H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) poster, and the new FFA Career Development Contest.
  • Contests: Delta Fair Queen Pageant, Dancing Stars, Art and Photo, I Am Beautiful Pageant, Delta Throwdown Crossfit Competition.

Other attractions

The fair also includes plenty of other ways to have fun, including the Banana Derby of monkeys riding dogs, a mini tractor pull, barrel racing, mixed martial arts (MMA) fights (7 p.m. Aug. 30 for $15 ringside seats or $5 general admission), 1 Wheel Revolution Motorcycle Stunt Show, Pedal to the Metal Car Show, Wambold’s Amazing Animals Tiger and Liger Show, petting zoo, Rhinestone Roper, Freakshow Deluxe, Hambone Express Pig Races, sumo westling, lawnmower racers, mechanical bull rides, tractor pulls, family magic show, The Birdman, Masters of the Chainsaw, magic show, Xtreme Motorcycle Thrill Show, Lowrider and Hydraulic Car Show, Mexican rodeo, and the Tractor and Truck Pull.

Special days

  • Latino Day, Aug. 31. Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexican Independence Day.
  • $10 ride wristbands, Sept. 2.
  • Senior American Day, Sept. 3. People age 60 and older will receive free admission and parking till noon.
  • Bumpus Harley Davidson Bike Night: Sept. 3. For $10, each rider gets admission, VIP parking by the main stage, and one free 12oz. beer, and other special events are planned.
  • Food Bank Day: Sept. 4. Bring a canned good to the Delta Fair for half off one adult admission ticket, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Ladies Day: Sept. 4. This special day for women will focus on creating breast cancer awareness by encouraging fairgoers to wear pink.

  • Sept. 6: 10 a.m.-11 p.m.
  • Sept. 7: noon-10 p.m.

Tickets

  • Adults (ages 13 and over), $10 at gate
  • Youth (ages 5-12), $5 at gate
  • Children (ages 4 and under), free
  • Midway wrist bands: Good for unlimited rides on the midway; $25 at the gate. Pre-purchase at Kroger and online at DeltaFest.com for $20.  Tuesday is $10 wrist band day.
  • Family Packs: Family packs include two adult tickets, two youth tickets, and two midway wrist bands. The Family Pack is an $80 dollar value available for $64 at Kroger or online at DeltaFest.com.

Parking

The main entrances for parking are off Germantown Parkway and Walnut Grove Road. The cost is $5 at the entrance.

There is free parking and a shuttle service off Walnut Grove near Farm Road on Friday to Monday of the first weekend and on Friday to Sunday of the second weekend.
