Smallcakes Bartlett is seeing a steady stream of customers for its homemade ice cream and plump cupcakes. The business opened March 19 at the old TCBY location (6600 Stage Road, Suite 109). Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Owner Cathy Hayes said in the first two days of operation, chocolate cupcakes seemed to be the local favorite. But the bakery offers plenty of selections: eight flavors of ice cream and 12 of cupcakes. They also are going to offer special flavors periodically. And keep an eye on their menu: They will be offering smaller versions of their cupcakes soon for parties, as well as birthday cakes.
Her business can be found on Facebook by searching for “Smallcakes Bartlett.”
It’s her first foray into business ownership, and she left the security of the corporate world to follow her dream. She first fell in love with the cupcakes, then learned about the chain and decided to take the plunge.
Her brother, a Bartlett resident, told her the city would be a great base for her business.
Most of the cupcakes sales have been takeout orders so far, and she’s very pleased with the foot traffic she’s getting at her location.
“It’s at a very busy intersection, and the shopping center itself is very busy,” Hayes said.
She’s optimistic, based on the community response she’s seen so far. “Looks like it’s going to be a success.”
Her Smallcakes location is 1,460 square feet and is decorated in the chain’s traditional chocolate brown and vibrant pink.
The chain, Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery, kicked off in 2008 at Overland Park, Kan., and has grown to 160 stores worldwide.
