For the second straight year, First Assembly Christian School in Cordova will play host on Saturday, Nov. 1, to the West Tennessee History Bee and Bowl.
With as many as 25 teams coming from throughout the Memphis metropolitan area and beyond, the FACS contest is expected to be one of the largest in the nation. National History Bowl executive director David Madden said he plans to be on hand for the event.
“The National History Bee and Bowl is delighted to be partnering with FACS,” Madden said. “First Assembly Christian School’s support in hosting the tournament allows area students to compete in an exciting quiz competition where students are rewarded for their knowledge of history.”
Founded in 2010, National History Bowl is a sequential competition, with teams competing at Regional and State qualifying tournaments, leading to the National Championships in Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Va., in the spring of 2015.

he West Tennessee qualifier is being organized by the FACS Social Studies Department under the direction of secondary principal Joe Newman, who has a doctorate in history.
In 2014, an FACS student won the county’s Archive Award, several students advanced to the state NHD contest, and one placed among the top ten nationally.
