Universities and colleges have released the following information about local students.
Academic honors
- William Wright of Arlington has been named to the spring 2017 president’s list at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Miss.
- Paige Medline of Bartlett has been named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Students named to the list earned at least a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, completed at least 12 hours of standard graded credit, achieved no grade below a B and received no failing grades in enrolled courses, including credit/no credit or pass/fail courses.
- Sarah Remington and Claire Ward, both of Bartlett, have been named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C. Approximately 30 percent of Belmont’s 7,700 students qualified for the honor.
- Amanda Henderson and Chainna Scott, both of Bartlett, have been named to the spring 2017 dean’s list for Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City. Eligible students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while taking 12 or more credit hours.
- The following local students have been named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. Arlington students include Zachary Beasley, kinesiology major; Joshua Brandon, accounting major; Joseph Smith, communication sciences and disorders major; and Madison Taylor, communication sciences and disorders major. Bartlett students include Meagan Hoard, marketing major; Casey Montgomery, elementary education major; Robert Montgomery, Bible and ministry major; and Emily Rowsey, accounting major. Lakeland students include Ellie Arnett, kinesiology and health education major, and Hayden Wagner, accounting major. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Alainee Miller Alainee Miller, Class of 2016 alumna at Briarcrest Christian School, has been selected as the Outstanding Freshman Chemistry Student of the Year at the University of Memphis. Miller is a freshman biochemistry major at Memphis who currently holds a 4.0 GPA. She also has been accepted into the University of Tennessee’s Pharmacy School as part of their Early Admit Program, where she plans to go after three years of undergraduate work. She says, “Briarcrest has really prepared me well for this next step in my life.”
- Brooklyn Hinson of Arlington, Tenn., was among the graduates recognized on May 12 at the Honors Recognition Ceremony and Reception at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. Students “Graduating in Honors” from the Honors College have completed a minimum of 18 credit hours in Honors coursework and are graduating with a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average. This distinction is recognized on their diplomas and their formal academic transcripts. These students are also presented with a silver Honors medallion and a certificate in recognition of their accomplishment.
Professional groups
Drew Thomas of Lakeland was inducted into the Order of Engineers during a May 6 ceremony before commencement ceremonies at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The induction ceremony is a way for graduating engineering students to show pride in their new profession and unity with other engineers. Participating students recite a pledge to uphold honor, workmanship and ethics in the engineering field.
Artistic honors
Bailey James of Bartlett was among the students who created winning entries in the recent Campbellsville University Juried Student Art Show in Campbellsville, Ky. She earned second place in the graphic design category with “Cloud9.”
