Colleges and universities have released the following information about area students.
Honors
- Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., named the following students to the dean’s list during the spring 2015 semester: Lauren Eskew, Megan Hansen and Shane Lantigua, all of Bartlett; Aundrea Johnson, Unjala Lester, Rachael Maynard, Brittany Meyer and Robert Price, all of Arlington; and Brittany White of Lakeland.
- Jennifer Bearden of Bartlett has earned a Top Paper award at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The award recognizes the highest class grade for the spring 2015 semester. She earned the award in Mediation Clinic during the spring 2015 semester.
- Sharif Kayali of Lakeland received his white coat at the White Coat Ceremony at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tenn., on Sept. 26. Kayali is a first-year osteopathic medical student at LMU-DCOM. Prior to enrolling at LMU-DCOM, Kayali attended University of Memphis. White Coat Ceremony is a special ceremony designed to mark a student’s entrance into medical school. The first White Coat Ceremony was held in 1993 at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and is now a standard ritual in institutions of both allopathic and osteopathic medical education across the country.
- Paige K. Jablon of Arlington was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. She is a freshman majoring in biological sciences in the College of Science.
Graduation
- Western Governors University (WGU) Tennessee University recently held its second annual commencement ceremony at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville, graduating 270 students. They included Tiffany Powell of Arlington, who received her bachelor of science degree in accounting.
- Shirley Shanic Burke of Cordova recently graduated from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. She earned a bachelor of general studies in general business.
