
Colleges and universities have provided the following announcements about Bartlett, Arlington and Lakeland students.
Graduations
Kip Kenerly of Bartlett was among the more than 850 students who graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville during its 117th commencement services on May 12.
Five Bartlett students were among the 193rd graduating class of Union University in Jackson, Tenn., on May 19. Commencement services were held at the Oman Arena. The students are ShaRonda Foster, master of social work degree in social work; Terkessa Frison, bachelor of social work degree in social work; Tabatha Johnson, master of social work degree in social work; Brooke Newton, bachelor of science degree in psychology; and Hannah Smith, bachelor of science degree in teaching and learning and in interdisciplinary studies.
Xavier Bingham of Bartlett received an associate of arts degree at the conclusion of the 2018 spring semester at Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss.
Anthony Curtis Freeman of Bartlett received a master of arts in liberal science degree in social sciences during Hollins University’s 176th commencement ceremony in Roanoke, Va., on May 20.
Honors
Ava Jackson of Lakeland and Olivia Kemker of Arlington have been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
Melanie Sevilla, a junior English major of Lakeland, was named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. The dean’s list recognizes students who earn a 3.00-3.74 grade point average during the semester.
Amy Janes of Arlington has been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, Tenn. To be included on the dean’s list, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours of college-level courses during the semester and earn a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for the semester.
Ryan Duffy of Bartlett has been named to the spring 2018 honor roll at Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, Tenn. To be included on the honor roll, a student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of college-level courses during the semester and earn a grade-point average (GPA) between 3.0 and 3.49 during the semester.
Six area students have been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. They are Kailysia Beckwith and Laurel Hansen, both of Bartlett; and Kelsey Hawkins, Brandon McEwen, Noelle Oleartchick and Jason Pagenkopf, all of Arlington. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or greater.
Three area students have been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. They are Lacy Corbitt and Hannah Wales, both of Arlington; and Paige Medlin of Bartlett. Students named to the list earned at least a 3.75 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, completed at least 12 hours of standard graded credit, achieved no grade below a B and received no failing grades in enrolled courses, including credit/no credit or pass/fail courses.
Loren L. Lay and Kathryn R. Paine, both of Bartlett, have been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo. This honor recognizes full-time students from Missouri Southern who earned a grade point average of 3.75 or above on a 4.0 scale while enrolled in 12 or more hours of credit courses.
Amos Nasongo of Arlington has been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. He is majoring in political science. To achieve the dean’s list distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C- during the course of their college career.
Ashley Duboise, Samantha Jones, Candace Morgan, Anna Venckus and Teresa Young, all of Bartlett, have been named to the spring 2018 president’s list at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. This honor includes full-time students who achieve a 4.0 grade point average on a four-point scale.
Emily Boyer, Brooklyn Croom, Brooke Newton and Anna Tansey, all of Bartlett, have been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Union University in Jackson, Tenn. The dean’s list includes full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale.
Megan Cheng of Lakeland has been named to the spring 2018 president’s honor roll at Oklahoma City University. To qualify, students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours during a semester and maintain a GPA of 3.9 or higher.
Morgan White of Lakeland has been named to the spring 2018 dean’s honor roll at Oklahoma City University. To qualify, students must successfully complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Meredith Norton of Lakeland has been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill. To qualify for inclusion on the dean’s list, a student must have been enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and must have attained a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale.
Cristian J. Santiago and Courtney L. Daniel, both of Lakeland, and Emma C. Bethea of Bartlett have been named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Santiago and Bethea are graduates of Harding Academy of Memphis, and Daniel is a graduate of Arlington High School. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework.
Sarah Carmack and Trameciea White, both of Lakeland, have been named to the spring 2018 president’s list at Mississippi University for Women. In order to qualify for the president’s list, a student must be enrolled full-time and have a quality point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 scale for the semester.
Scholarship
Chelsea Diaz of Lakeland has been awarded the Dean’s Scholarship at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. The honor is offered to high-achieving freshmen for the summer or fall 2018 semester. Eligible students are freshmen who have a 3.5+ GPA and a score of 26 on the ACT or 1170 on the SAT.
Activities
Claire Ward of Bartlett is among the 700 students at Belmont University in Nashville will be participating in one of the 43 faculty-led Maymester and Summer Study Abroad experiences around the world. Students are able to visit places they’ve never been, see historical sites and spend time experiencing new cultures. Acceptances
J.J. Vaden of Bartlett, the son of Louis and Linda Vaden, has been accepted to attend Harding University in Searcy, Ark., for fall 2018. Vaden graduated from Bartlett High School, where he played football and was 2017-18 team captain. He will be welcomed to campus Aug. 16 for Student Impact. This orientation program is designed to help freshmen and new students learn about campus and make the adjustment to college life.
