Colleges and universities have released the latest information on scholarships and academic honors earned by Mid-South students.

Scholarships

SBA exchange club honorees

Frank is advancing to the national level to vie for selection as National Exchange Club Youth of the Year. He and Schuler were both chosen as the Germantown Exchange Club’s Youths of the Month in May.

St. Benedict at Auburndale High School has announced that 2015 graduate Kyle Van Frank was named the Tennessee District Exchange Club Youth of the year recently in Nashville. The district covers Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.

He was selected, along with graduating senior Kirkland Schuler, as the Germantown Exchange Club Youths of the Month in May. Frank was awarded a $500 scholarship for advancing to the district level and $1,000 scholarship for advancing to the national level. The selection of the National Exchange Club Youth of the Year will be made in July in Ohio.

Honors

  • Lane Hylander of Bartlett was among this year’s Okra Scholars at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss. In 2014, Delta State University received a four-year $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to implement this program to help freshmen turn their dream of a college education into reality. Okra Scholars participate in tutorial services, a collaborative learning lab, learning community classes, study skills workshops, professional development courses, internships and part-time employment opportunities. Eligible students are freshmen who meet one of the following eligibility requirements: ACT score of 17-21, resident of the Mississippi Delta, a first-generation college student or Pell-Grant eligible.
  • Julianne Morgan of Arlington and Lauren Wilkes of Bartlett were among the Delta State University students named to the dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester. Eligible students must earn a 3.50-3.79 GPA while attempting 12 or more academic hours.
  • Andra Guzzo of Bartlett was named to the spring 2015 dean’s list at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Eligible students are full time and have a minimum of 12 credit hours with grade-point averages at 3.5 or above.
  • Michael Favorite of Bartlett was named to the spring 2015 dean’s list at Benedictine College in Atchinson, Kan. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Favorite. Eligible students must carry a minimum of 12 credit hours and a grade point average of 3.5 or above per semester.
  • Meghan Meadows, senior biology major from Lakeland, was named to the spring 2015 president’s list at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. Eligible students must have a grade point average of 4.0 and full-time status.
  • Freed-Hardeman University named the following students to the spring 2015 dean’s list: Michelle Bennett, junior biology major from Barretville; Dalton Caviness, freshman chemistry major from Bartlett; Joseph Leatherwood, freshman law and politics major from Bartlett; and Morgan Pledge, a sophomore from Lakeland. Dean’s list scholars must earn a minimum GPA of 3.40 while taking at least 12 credit hours.
  • Jessica Welch of Arlington was named to the spring 2015 president’s list at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Miss. Eligible students must complete 12 or more semester hours with a grade point average of 3.75 or better.
