Universities and colleges have made the following announcements about area students.

Scholarships

  • graduate - happyEast Tennessee State University of Johnson City has named Camryn McKelvy of Bartlett among the recipients of a Presidential Academic Performance Scholarship. McKelvy, the daughter of Philip and Dana McKelvy of Bartlett, will study international relations at ETSU. Recipients must attain a GPA of at least 3.9 with an ACT of 30 or better or a minimum SAT score of 1320.
  • East Tennessee State University in Johnson City has named Anna Elmore of Arlington and Daniel Stoll of Cordova as recipients of Provost Academic Performance Scholarships. Elmore is the daughter of Brice and Heather Elmore of Arlington. She is a senior at Bolton High School and plans to study health sciences at ETSU. Stoll is the son of Steven and Sandra Stoll of Cordova. He plans to study psychology at ETSU. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.5 or better, with an ACT score of at least 27 or an SAT score of 1210 or better.
  • Kaylyn Harris of Bartlett has been chosen to receive the Richard Joel Scholarship at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She was among the honorees at the 2016 Honors Convocation for the College of Communication and Information at UT-Knoxville on April 11.

Honors

  • Christina Thomas and Jenna Mosier, both of Arlington, were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Thomas was initiated at Southeast Missouri State University. Mosier is pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss. They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership.
  • Brooke Ashley Mills of Bartlett has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) at The University of Memphis. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first-year and second-year college students.
