BACC board nominations are now open
The Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) is accepting board nominations from members through Nov. 30.
BACC chairman Mark Askew said the nominations are for members to serve for three years on the BACC Board of Directors for the 2016-2018 term. Nominees should be current dues-paying members that have shown an active interest in the chamber’s mission and success, and they must have agreed to accept the responsibility.
Nominations can be emailed to Debra Malone at dmalone@bartlettchamber.org. The five-member Election Committee will meet on Nov. 30 to review all nominations and approve a slate of nominees to be submitted to the general membership for approval.
Bylaws state that nominations must be approved at the last board meeting before the new year; see the chamber’s bylaws for additional information.
DentalSense opens new Bartlett location
Dr. Teresa Macaraeg recently opened a Bartlett location of DentalSense, the dental practice solutions company based out of Charlotte, S.C. Located on Summer Oaks Drive in Bartlett, the office was formerly known as Smiles Are Us. It has reopened this fall under new management and a new name. 2 local Saint Francis hospitals earn ‘A’ score for patient safety
Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett and Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis have been honored with “A” Hospital Safety Scores by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital industry watchdog.
These were the only two hospitals in the Memphis area to receive “A” grades.
Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis was recognized as a “Straight A” hospital for being one of just 133 hospitals nationwide to have achieved an “A” grade in every grading period since the Hospital Safety Score first launched in June 2012. Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett received its fourth consecutive “A” grade.

The Leapfrog Group’s nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel calculates the Hospital Safety Score. The panel uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score that represents a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,500 hospitals have been assigned scores, with less than one-third receiving an “A” grade.

MLGW named 2015 APEX Corp. of the Year
The Mid-South Minority Business Council Continuum has awarded MLGW the title of 2015 APEX Corporation of the Year. The announcement was made during the annual Robert R. Church, Sr. Achievement Awards luncheon on Nov. 6.
The award recognizes a company that shows leadership in supporting companies and small businesses owned by minorities, women and local residents. In 2015, MLGW’s spending among these categories has been over $22 million — 38 percent of the company’s overall spending with outside suppliers.
This is the fifth year MLGW has earned the title, underscoring the company’s increased focus on supplier diversity. Procurement and Contracts Manager Jozelle Booker was excited for the recognition of her company and co-workers’ diligent efforts.
“We are proud of our contributions to growing local businesses. It is great to see the Division’s results recognized,” she said.
Previous wins for MLGW were in 2011, 2007, 2004 and 2001. Other finalists this year were International Paper and the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.

Agencies partner for economic development
MEMPHIS — Multiple agencies have entered a partnership to promote economic growth and prosperity in West Tennessee. The agencies include the Memphis Area Association of Governments (MAAG) and the Economic Development Growth Engine (EDGE) Industrial Development Board of the City of Memphis and County of Shelby, Tenn.
“We are excited to partner with MAAG to better our region,” said Reid Dulberger, president and CEO of EDGE. “Both our organizations strive to create a stronger Memphis and Shelby County and working together strengthens the West Tennessee region as a whole.”
MAAG, the designated Development District, covers a six-county region that includes Memphis and Shelby County represented by EDGE. Of those six counties, four are in Tennessee (Shelby, Tipton, Lauderdale and Fayette), one is in Arkansas (Crittenden), and one is in in Mississippi (DeSoto). MAAG and EDGE agreed to collaborate on various economic development initiatives in the four Tennessee counties to enhance the Memphis region.
Ralph Moore, MAAG executive director, said, “Our organizations collaborating will create more opportunities for economic growth throughout the region. Working together we are able to explore and identify more opportunities to create a Memphis Regional Megasite.”
The two organizations identified potential opportunities for cooperation and collaboration, including federal and state grant applications, workforce development, bond and loan programs, Tax Increment Financing, foreign-trade zone, export promotion, and more.
