What will open at Stage Road and Bartlett Blvd?
Curiosity is about to be satisfied for all the people who have been wondering just what is being built at the corner of Bartlett Boulevard and Stage Road. There will be a new Valero convenience store and gas pumps replacing the gas station that was once there, according to the City of Bartlett’s Planning & Economic Development Department.
The most recent work on the site was groundwork and fuel tank testing to satisfy the requirements of the State of Tennessee. Previously, the spot was a Marathon location. Before that, it was a BP station.
The target date for completion has not yet been announced.
Local Christian bookstore to close for good in May
Bartlett is bidding goodbye to the Family Christian Bookstore at Bartlett Towne Center, 6025 Stage Rd No. 36.
The entire company is shutting down its approximately 240 locations, affecting about 3,000 employees in 36 states.
Sales on the discounted merchandise have been brisk in Bartlett, an employee said, with current sales volumes estimated at triple the normal amount. As the staff members are telling customers, “Everything must go.”
The chain has operated for more than 85 years. And as of May 13, even the final stores that remain open will close their doors permanently, according to district manager John Luick. Company spokesmen have publicly stated that all of the chain’s locations are closing because of “changing consumer behavior and declining sales.”
Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett awarded an ‘A’ for safety
Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett is once again an “A” performer with its latest Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital industry watchdog. Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett is one of two hospitals in the Memphis area to receive this top grade and one of just 138 hospitals nationwide to have received straight As since 2014.

Thirty measures of publicly available hospital safety data are used to produce a single grade representing a hospital’s commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents. More than 2,600 hospitals have been assigned scores, with less than a third receiving an A grade.

ARLINGTON — Mark Barney of Bartlett, Tenn., has become affiliated with the Arlington branch office of Crye-Leike Real Estate Services. Bartlett banker appointed to CDIAC
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis has appointed a banker from Bartlett to its Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council (CDIAC).
Craig Esreal, president and CEO of First South Financial Credit Union in Bartlett, has been appointed to a three-year term ending in 2019.
Members of the 12-person advisory council, established by the St. Louis Fed in 2011, are executives of smaller financial institutions across the Fed’s Eighth District. Bartlett is part of the Memphis Zone of the Eighth District. Council members advise St. Louis Fed President James Bullard on the credit, banking and economic conditions facing their institutions and local communities.
UPS honors accident-free Bartlett driver’s 25 years
UPS adds to its prestigious “Circle of Honor” each year to recognize employees who have delivered packages for a quarter of a century without an accident. The company recently lauded Robert Henley of Bartlett along with 40 other elite drivers from Tennessee. They are among 1,575 newly inducted drivers into the company’s elite organization.
Local honorees also included Richard Carlson of Millington; James Miller, William Milligan, Kenneth Saulsberry and Hassell Smith, all of Memphis; Robert Mosley of Oakland; and Dustan Moton of Collierville.
Globally, 9,349 active UPS drivers are members of the Circle of Honor. Collectively they’ve racked up 266,554 years and nearly 14 billion safe miles during their careers. That’s enough miles to travel to the moon and back almost 29,000 times.
Lakelander to manage Harrah’s Hope Lodge
MEMPHIS — The American Cancer Society recently announced that Maria Robinson has been named senior manager for the Society’s Harrah’s Hope Lodge in Memphis. Robinson now oversees the lodge’s day-to-day operations, including guest services, volunteer engagement and community involvement.
Harrah’s Hope Lodge, located next to Sun Studio on Union Avenue, opened in 2010 and provides a free home-away-from-home for people traveling to Memphis for cancer treatment. Last year, Harrah’s Hope Lodge provided 8,232 nights of free lodging to 1,191 patients and caregivers, saving them about $1.2 million in lodging costs.
Robinson, an eight-year cancer survivor herself, first joined the Society in 2012 as community manager for Relay For Life. While in this role, she raised over $2 million through community and corporate fundraising efforts. In addition to fundraising, Robinson recruited, cultivated and managed relationships with hundreds of volunteers. Prior to joining the Society, Robinson worked in the finance, real estate and restaurant industries.
Robinson received her Bachelors of Science degree in education from the University of Memphis. She lives in Lakeland with her husband and two sons, and she volunteers with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Arlington and the Arlington High School baseball team and school band.
Ron Guy recognized for community work
GERMANTOWN — Affiliate broker Ron Guy of Crye-Leike Real Estate Services was recently recognized for his community service work with the Memphis Area Association of Realtors (MAAR)’s Benevolent Fund.
As a Realtor and member of MAAR, Guy was presented the “2016 Shorty Watkins Unsung Hero Award” where he was recognized for his nine years of service supporting the MAAR Benevolent Fund. His service to the committee includes being responsible for promoting the existence of the fund and coordinating any special fund-raising projects.
Established in 1994, the MAAR Benevolent Fund provides financial assistance to MAAR members and their families due to prolonged illness, catastrophic occurrence, or accident.
“Benevolent Fund dollars have been granted for such circumstances as helping with burial expenses when there were no funds or insurance to help defray the costs; assistance paying one month’s mortgage due to inability to work because of serious illness; replacing items lost from a devastating fire; or payment towards the purchase of a wheelchair,” Guy said.
MAAR member Shorty Watkins founded the fund which has grown to become a viable entity within the Memphis Realtor community. Since its establishment, the fund has provided over $200,000 in assistance to Memphis Realtors in need of a helping hand. The MAAR Benevolent Fund is one of only 15 of its kind among Realtor associations nationwide, and achieved tax exempt status in July 2011.

MEMPHIS — Michelle Fracchia and Arthur Walden have joined Pinnacle Financial Partners at its Memphis headquarters on Quail Hollow Road.
She brings 20 years of experience to her role of senior vice president and financial advisor. She most recently comes from IberiaBank, where her roles included serving as a private banking manager and treasury management sales officer. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi and a master’s degree from the University of Memphis. She is also a graduate of the Southeastern School of Commercial Lending at Vanderbilt University.
Walden, with five years of experience, joins Pinnacle as a credit advisor for the firm’s commercial real estate group. He was previously with Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company as a realty investment analyst. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in management of construction and land development, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State University.

Gibson, with 10 years of experience, joins Pinnacle as a client service specialist. She comes most recently from Bank of Bartlett, where she was a sales and services supervisor. Gibson is based at Pinnacle’s Forest Hill office.
Webb brings 30 years of experience to her role of client service advisor for Pinnacle’s Cordova office. She also comes from Bank of Bartlett, where she was a vice president and market manager for the bank’s main office. Weekend tour spurs 35 property sales
MEMPHIS — Sixty real estate investors from multiple states converged in Memphis over the first weekend in April to tour properties they were considering for purchase.
“Real estate investors from across the country are hungry for the kind of real estate investments that are available in Memphis,” said Jim Reedy, president and founder of Reedy & Company, parent company of Memphis Investment Properties (MIP), also owned by Reedy.
After having lunch at the Reedy & Company office on that Saturday, the bus tour of real estate investment properties began. Purchase of homes was brisk. Some investors committed to the purchase houses as the bus pulled up in front of the properties, before they got off the bus.
Bolan You, from Los Angeles, purchased a home off Covington Pike sign unseen. His new purchase was the first stop on the tour, which lasted about four hours. Another out-of-state investor, Adam Jackson, purchased five homes. He was one of several investors who bought multiple properties.
The point of the tour was about more than just selling the properties offered for sale over the weekend. “These people will continue to purchase homes in upcoming months based on what they saw,” said James Wachob, real estate investment broker for Memphis Investment Properties.
“They bought houses sight unseen that we couldn’t take them to on the tour,” Wachob said. “The point of the tour was not just to sell houses, it was to give investors a sampling of the kind of quality work that MIP offers, and to let them know that they can feel confident we will take care of their houses even though they live far away. We showed examples of homes before, during and after renovations were complete.”

United Way receives $89K from Crye-Leike
MEMPHIS — Crye-Leike Real Estate Services, the nation’s sixth largest residential real estate brokerage firm, concluded its 2016 United Way Workplace Campaign by raising a total of $ 89,387 companywide to support United Way agencies located in 29 counties in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
Since becoming a partner with United Way in 1995, Crye-Leike, its sales associates and corporate staff companywide have contributed in excess of $800,000.
