Fifth-graders at Bon Lin Elementary School in Bartlett are celebrating their city’s sesquicentennial this year with an artful look at architecture. They created colorfully patterned art to represent public buildings and historic homes in Bartlett, drawing inspiration from “folk modern” artist, Heather Galler (1970- ).

Students were asked to incorporate qualities of Heather Galler’s style and also apply some techniques used by artists to create depth on a flat surface. Viewers can look for techniques such as diminishing size, overlapping, and one-point perspectives.
